Conquer The Castle!

Llangollen Castle

Llangollen is such a beautiful place to run, but it isn’t typically described as “flat”! This FREE 4 week course aims to get you running up our wonderful hilly wonderland efficiently so you can enjoy new routes, see new sights and feel good standing on top of a mountain, knowing you got all that way yourself.

The ultimate aim of the course is to get you to the top of the Castle, and you’ll be breathless from the views, not from the climb. It’s all about running efficiently and enjoying the run. If you’re already regularly running up hills and enjoying them, the focus will be to improve your pace which will happen from the technique work, your “homework”, and the push we all get when running with each other. 

The course is open to men and women, over 12 (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult). Each session is on a Thursday evening, starting at 18:30 and lasts for around 40 minutes.

It is completely free, but we need everyone to fill in the online membership form so we have emergency contact details, available  here: llangollen running club membership form.

We meet at Llangollen Sports Club, which is just off Tower Road by the Rugby and Football fields. There is free parking along with kitchen, toilets and changing facilities.

As the nights are getting darker, you’ll need a head torch to run with. We have a few spares, so if you do not have one just yet please don’t worry and come along, we will help get it sorted for you. Just dress for the weather and temperature, pop on your trainers or running shoes, and come along.

Week 1

Thursday 26th September
18:30-19:15 Hill Running Technique

The first week will be spent looking at technique and the best way to run or power walk uphill efficiently. We will go through different exercises and drills to get faster and the mental barriers involved when facing hill challenges.

 

Week 2

Thursday 3rd October
18:30-19:15 Castle Section 1

The second week will be where we start to put what we have learned into practice. We will begin to Conquer The Castle, running in groups focusing on efficient and controlled running up the first section to the Castle. We will stay together and regroup where necessary, nobody will get left behind.

 

Week 3

Thursday 10th October
18:30-19:15 Castle Section 2

In the third week we will repeat what we have been learning, hopefully the “homework” Jen sets you will be kicking in and you’ll be feeling the improvements! We will make our way up and around to “The Pancake”. Staying as a group and Conquering the Castle together.

 

Week 4

Thursday 17th October
18:30-19:15 Conquer The Castle!

Your final week! Tonight is the night we have worked hard for, and we will head up to the Castle together! And we will do it with a smile! Plus, what comes up…….. 

……. must come down!
